Three Great Municipal Courses, One Extraordinary Experience

Fun fact: A golf ball flies 10 percent farther in Colorado than in other states because of the altitude.

Located along the Front Range between Loveland and Boulder, Longmont affords visitors to Colorado countless reasons for making it a destination on their itinerary. With a great view local arts, and recreation and sports opportunities abounding, you’ll have a full schedule for certain. No matter the reason for your visit, making sure golf is one of your priorities should be tantamount, as there are a variety of courses with ample tee times to fit any daily calendar.

Some of the great courses in the Longmont area are below, so be sure to load up the bag and start your circuit.

Public Courses

Ute Creek Golf Course

Designed by the famous Robert Trent Jones II Group golf course architects, the Ute Creek Golf Course is an 18-hole championship course. The Par 72 tract was opened in 1997 and has yardages ranging from 5,509 yards to 7,167 yards at the back tees. The course offers spectacular views and was recognized by the Audubon International Cooperative Sanctuary Program as an environmentally friendly golf course.

Twin Peaks Golf Course

Opened in 1977, the Twin Peaks Golf Course is located just 45 miles north of Denver. A Frank Hummel design, the traditional-style championship course boasts seven holes with water hazards, but the real challenge is navigating the tricky, elevated greens. The Par 70 layout is walkable, but carts are available, and the complex includes a full driving range and practice facility offering PGA Golf Instruction.

Sunset Golf Course

One of the first nine-hole courses in Colorado, the Sunset Golf Course is widely renowned for its immaculate condition, which is highlighted by tree-lined fairways and spectacular views of Longs Peak. Opened in 1922, Sunset, the course is located in historic old Longmont and is considered one of the most scenic courses in the state. Longs Peak's views start immediately and stretch through the traditional layout. It may be a good idea to keep your driver in the bag and grab a fairway wood from the tee, though, as the narrow fairways lined by mature cottonwoods will require pinpoint accuracy from nearly every tee box.

Private Courses

Lake Valley Golf Club

The Lake Valley Golf Club is among the best courses in Colorado. The links-style course was opened in 1965 and features a variety of holes along with stunning views of Colorado’s Flatirons and foothills. The course is known for its old-style “push up” greens and has hosted the 2016 USGA Senior Open Qualifying and other Championships. Six sets of tees assure that the course can be enjoyable to golfers of all skill levels and abilities. The Par 70 course runs 6,891 yards from the back tees and is easily walked with relatively short distances from greens to the following tee boxes.

The Fox Hill Club

One of the region’s most exclusive private clubs, the Fox Hill Club features an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Frank Hummel and then modified under a Master Plan designed by Dick Phelps. The course was officially opened upon Lt. Governor John Vaderhoof’s opening tee shot off the first tee back in 1973.

The parkland-style tract covers 130 acres and features tree-lined, beautifully manicured fairways. Eleven fairway bunkers are defining the driving areas, along with 33 strategically placed greenside sand traps to give even the best of mid-iron players a challenge. With six sets of tee markers, the tract ranges from just over 5,400 yards from the front tees to over 7100 from the Championship markers. Between the sand and the 1,200 trees that line the fairways, ten holes feature water hazards.
