Rocky Mountain Paddleboard (RMP) offers Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) rentals, beginner instruction, SUP Yoga classes, adventure trips, private parties, youth camps and full moon paddles. RMP is based at Longmont’s Union Reservoir, offering a chance to try or perfect your SUP skills.
RMP is an independently owned, Boulder-based company that is passionate about sharing their love and skill for SUPing. They currently have three locations along the Front Range: Longmont, Boulder Reservoir, and The Marina at Cherry Creek Reservoir in south Denver. The Longmont location is their flagship store and offers a retail shop where you can buy your own board, paddle, and accessories. You can check out their online store here.
Stand up paddleboarding was created in Hawaii as an offshoot of surfing. Unlike surfing, paddlers stand upright on a surfboard and use a paddle to guide and propel them through the water. It has become a popular sport over the past few years due to the minimal equipment needed, the full body workout it provides, and the fun, relaxing challenge it creates. It’s suitable for kids of all ages, so the whole family will enjoy a day out on the water.
Union Reservoir is a 736-acre body of water providing many outdoor recreational activities in Longmont. Originally called Calkins Lake, the reservoir was carved out during the last glacial age and is one of only a few natural lakes in Colorado. Located just seven miles west of I-25, the reservoir is easily accessible to visitors. During the summer, the reservoir is open 6 a.m.-9 p.m. and entrance fees are just $8/vehicle per day. Find out more about season passes here. Besides SUPing, Union Reservoir offers a swim beach, playground, camping sites, picnic areas, a dog beach, windsurfing, kayaking and sailing and sculling clubs. The Reservoir is located on County Road 26, off E. County Line Road.
Paddleboard rentals start at $20 for one hour; $30 for two hours (punch cards are also available for purchase). Beginner lessons are $75 and last two hours, and SUP Yoga is $35 for 90 minutes. RMP can cater to private groups of 10-200 people, so have your next work retreat, birthday party or happy hour on the water! Used boards, paddles and gear are also available for purchase, and RMP’s staff will help find the right board for you.
All you will need is sunscreen, water, and a towel for your time on the water. Rocky Mountain Paddleboard will take care of the rest! RMP is open 8 a.m.-7 p.m. every day beginning Friday, June 2.
