Visit Longmont Names Tourism Leader John Ricks as CEO
Longmont, Colorado – Visit Longmont has named veteran tourism strategist John Ricks as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1.
Ricks brings a track record of building bold, high-performing destination brands. Most recently, he served as Executive Director of the Nebraska Tourism Commission, where he led the organization for nine years and launched the nationally and internationally recognized “Honestly, it’s not for everyone” campaign.
“The Board is thrilled to welcome John back to Colorado,” said David Fluegge, Board Chair. “He’s a proven leader who knows how to turn insight into action and elevate a destination’s profile in a meaningful way.”
Ricks is no stranger to the state. As Associate Director of the Colorado Tourism Office, he created the “Come to Life” campaign, an industry-defining platform that shifted tourism marketing toward emotional storytelling and continues to influence destination strategy today.
A graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Ricks is known for his research-driven approach and his ability to rally partners around a clear, compelling vision. In Longmont, he will lead efforts to strengthen the city’s position as a vibrant, year-round destination while supporting local businesses and enhancing quality of life for residents.
“John understands what makes a place resonate,” Fluegge added. “He’s exactly the leader we need to shape Longmont’s next chapter and capitalize on the attention the upcoming Sundance Film Festival will bring to the area.”
As CEO, Ricks will oversee the organization’s strategic direction, including marketing and sales, partnerships, community relations, and visitor experience. His role also encompasses finance and operations, business development, the visitor center, and the administration of the newly adopted Longmont Tourism Improvement District.
