Let's learn more about Monty the Longmonster! Take a look at Monty's recent interview with our CEO, Sarah Leonard. It is lightly edited for clarity.
Q: So, let's start with the important stuff. What is your favorite food and drink?
A: That's a tricky question, especially here in Longmont! I love our community's authentic flavors and trying new tastes in town. I'll admit, I’ve also got a bit of a sweet tooth. 🍩 And, of course, I never miss stopping by one of Longmont's award-winning breweries to kick back and chill with my friends.
Q: OK, what are your top likes? Like favorite color, favorite things to do, etc.?
A: My favorite color is purple, of course! 😉 And a favorite thing to do: exploring the outdoors with friends, especially on the St. Vrain Greenway. Whether I'm checking out the chirping birds or floating the river in early summer, high fives all around! ✋ In fact, I hope to hit all 40 of Longmont's parks in the next year.
Q: Just to be fair, I have to ask: dislikes?
A: Yikes! Definitely not a fan of litter and trash. Let's keep Longmont beautiful! And an absolute "NO!" to scary movies, especially ones with monsters. Can't stand those.
Q: How would you say other people describe you?
A: Oh, they'd probably say I'm the cuddliest monster around! I’m all about fun and friendliness. I'm always ready with a giant high five! Some even say I’ve got that perfect balance of positive energy and Colorado chill. 😎
Q: What do you do for your day job?
A: I’m Visit Longmont’s official fun-bringer! My official title is the Vibe and Engagement Strategist, and I’m all about spreading smiles and making sure everyone knows just how awesome Longmont is.
Q: Where are some of your favorite spots in Longmont?
A: Oh man, too many to choose! I love strolling around McIntosh Lake—perfect for Longmonster jaunts with furry friends. Or, visiting a farm stand for yummy, local and fresh food (remember, I am a foodie at heart!) And when I’m feeling artsy, I’ll pop into town to check out the murals or catch some live music. I can spend an entire afternoon wandering through the Longmont Museum. Oh, and don’t forget the library! I get lost in those big, (long) monster-sized books. 📚
Q: What do you do in your spare time?
A: I’m all about outdoor fun! You’ll see me playing frisbee in one of Longmont's many parks, giving longmonster-sized encouragement to the pickleball players, or in winter, catch me ice-skating at Roosevelt Park—I may be a big, furry longmonster, but I've got moves! ⛸️
