1. Check out Ansel Adams at the Longmont Museum
Running through May 26, Ansel Adams’ work will be housed at the Longmont Museum. Ansel Adams: Early Works focuses on these masterful small prints from the 1920s into the 1950s. By capturing the abject power of nature, Adams changed our understanding of landscape photography, solidifying it as a legitimate form of modern art.
2. Embark on a water adventure by kayak, tube or stand-up paddle-board
The height of summer is calling for ways to cool off and Longmont’s Union Reservoir is a great place to experience all kinds of water recreation. Offering stand-up paddle board and kayak rentals, Rocky Mountain Paddleboard has all you need for the perfect summer adventure. Need a place to take Fido? Try out Union’s dog beach and just relax along the shoreline while your pup plays!
Insider’s Tip: Dickens Farm Nature Area is on a 52-acre site along the St. Vrain Creek and will be a trail-head for the St. Vrain Greenway trail system. The nature area will also feature a whitewater park for kayaking and tubing. The perfect place to cool off on your summer getaway. Need to rent equipment? 3. Test your biking skills at Hall Ranch, Rabbit Mountain and Heil Valley Ranch Open Spaces
Downhill adventures cover the foothills of the Rocky Mountains with three open spaces for hiking, biking and in the winter, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. With over 25 miles of bike-able trails and over 30 miles of hiking in these areas, Longmont has an outdoor adventure for everyone.
4. Soar to new heights at Mile-Hi Skydiving
Mile-Hi Skydiving is Colorado’s top skydiving facility with more than 35,000 jumps made annually! Mile-Hi Skydiving is the only full-time skydiving operation within the northern Front Range area of Colorado. Located in Longmont’s Vance Brand Regional Airport, take a jump with the scenic Rocky Mountains from 18,000 feet above sea level!
5. Sip and savor your way through Longmont
Spend a day, weekend or an entire week tasting Longmont’s craft beer, ciders and spirits. Home to 12 breweries, 4 distilleries and a cidery, Longmont certainly has a love of craft beverages! Take a brewery tour at Left Hand Brewery, check out live music at Oskar Blues’ Tasty Weasel or pick-up a flight at the St. Vrain Cidery! To top it off, you can ride the Brewhop Trolley which allows riders to hop on and off at various locations!
6. Get cheesy in Longmont at the Art of Cheese and Cheese Importers
Have you ever wanted to try making cheese? Well now you can! Longmont is home to the Art of Cheese, a cheese-making school where classes are offered for beginners to experts and everything in between. The class schedule is always posted here. Try some Ricotta and Mozzarella or Asiago and Gouda!
Cheese Importers is housed in a french-inspired bistro and artisan market is a walk-in refrigerator of cheese, charcuterie and gourmet foods from around the world. They feature over 300 different selections of cheese! Grab a sample, pick-up a gift for a loved one or spend an afternoon dining at the bistro. Cheese Importers is a must-see!
7. Grab a fresh catch of the day at anytime of year at St. Vrain State Park
Try your hand at a premier fishing location, St. Vrain State Park. The Colorado state park is home 604 acres of land and 152 acres of water split among several ponds. It’s a great place for anglers, campers, photographers, birders, walkers and anyone who loves the great outdoors. During the winter season, St. Vrain State Park is a highlight for winter ice-fishing.
8. Check out the longest-running Farmers Market season in the state of Colorado
Collect your farm fresh fruit, veggies, meat, wine and more at the Longmont Farmers Market. Running April 6, 2019 – November 23, 2019, this market is held every Saturday during the season at the Boulder County Fairgrounds. In addition to the fresh produce, you can browse local artisan pieces, listen to live music and enjoy all of the season’s offerings!
9. Visit a Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives location for a unique dining experience
Popular Food Network show, Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives features three local Longmont establishments. Try out The Roost, Samples or The Post Brewing Co. on your next visit to town. 10. Browse shops, eateries, galleries and more in Longmont’s designated Creative District
The Downtown Longmont Creative District features an eclectic mix of restaurants, breweries, retail shops, art galleries, theaters, music venues, events and entertainment options. Stroll around the district to enjoy all we have to offer. The 2nd Friday program includes gallery openings, promotions and activities that also take place throughout the downtown district.
