Two Chances To See The Nutcracker This Holiday Season

This holiday season offers two opportunities to see the time-honored, classic ballet The Nutcracker, in Longmont. The Longmont Symphony Orchestra and Boulder Ballet present The Nutcracker Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3 at the Vance Brand Civic Auditorium, and Centennial State Ballet with accompaniment by Flatirons Community Orchestra and the St. Vrain Singers, will perform The Nutcracker Friday, Dec. 15 through Sunday, Dec. 17 at Niwot High School Auditorium.

The Nutcracker ballet is based on the story “The Nutcracker and the King of Mice” written by E.T.A. Hoffman. Although what is seen on stage today is different in detail from the original story, the basic plot remains the same – it’s the story of Clara, a young German girl who travels with her prince to the land of sweets.

The Longmont Symphony Orchestra joins Boulder Ballet for this annual holiday tradition that combines exciting choreography with a full, live orchestra performing Tchaikovsky’s masterful score. Their performances of The Nutcracker will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3. Tickets range in price from $12-$35, which includes special pricing for Youth (Under 18) and Seniors (60 and over). For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.

In its 17th year of performing The Nutcracker, Centennial State Ballet will host their performances December 15-17. Under the direction of Executive Artistic Director Kristin Kingsley, this year’s presentation by Longmont’s youth ballet company will feature accompaniment by Flatirons Community Orchestra and the St. Vrain Singers and special guest artists Matthew Helms and Crissy Smidt. The Company’s performances of The Nutcracker will begin at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, a 2 p.m. matinee and a 7 p.m. show will take place on Saturday, Dec. 16, and the performance will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17. Tickets are $17 for Students/Seniors and $22 for Adults. Purchase your tickets today!
