Two Chances To See The Nutcracker This Holiday Season

This holiday season offers two opportunities to see the time-honored, classic ballet The Nutcracker, in Longmont. The Longmont Symphony Orchestra and Boulder Ballet present The Nutcracker Saturday, Dec. 1 and Sunday, Dec. 2 at the Vance Brand Civic Auditorium, and Centennial State Ballet featuring students from Longmont Dance Theatre Academy, in this grand-scale production will perform The Nutcracker Friday, Dec. 21 through Sunday, Dec. 23 at Niwot High School Auditorium.

The Nutcracker ballet is based on the story “The Nutcracker and the King of Mice” written by E.T.A. Hoffman. Although what is seen on stage today is different in detail from the original story, the basic plot remains the same – it’s the story of Clara, a young German girl who travels with her prince to the land of sweets.

The Longmont Symphony Orchestra joins Boulder Ballet for this annual holiday tradition that combines exciting choreography with a full, live orchestra performing Tchaikovsky’s masterful score. Their performances of The Nutcracker will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2. For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
