This holiday season offers two opportunities to see the time-honored, classic ballet The Nutcracker, in Longmont. The Longmont Symphony Orchestra and Boulder Ballet present The Nutcracker Saturday, Dec. 2 and Sunday, Dec. 3 at the Vance Brand Civic Auditorium, and Centennial State Ballet with accompaniment by Flatirons Community Orchestra and the St. Vrain Singers, will perform The Nutcracker Friday, Dec. 15 through Sunday, Dec. 17 at Niwot High School Auditorium.
The Nutcracker ballet is based on the story “The Nutcracker and the King of Mice” written by E.T.A. Hoffman. Although what is seen on stage today is different in detail from the original story, the basic plot remains the same – it’s the story of Clara, a young German girl who travels with her prince to the land of sweets.
The Longmont Symphony Orchestra joins Boulder Ballet for this annual holiday tradition that combines exciting choreography with a full, live orchestra performing Tchaikovsky’s masterful score. Their performances of The Nutcracker will start at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3. Tickets range in price from $12-$35, which includes special pricing for Youth (Under 18) and Seniors (60 and over). For more information and to purchase tickets, click here.
