Welcome to Sunflower Farm

On May 24, 2018, after fifteen years of community significance, Sunflower Farm, a rural haven located in Longmont, Colorado was officially designated as an Educational Demonstration Farm, granting children and families access to the property enjoying Licensed Programs, Public Farmfests and Music.

Sunflower Farm’s Mission Statement: To cultivate an appreciation for farming, nature and our sustainable future by providing a place of mindful education and memories through daily farm routines, experiential play, family time together and stillness.

Preschool

Our licensed Preschool (simply referred to as “Farm School”) has a mission to cultivate an appreciation for farming, nature, and our sustainable future by providing a place of mindful education and memories through daily farm routines, experiential play, relationships and stillness.

Pre- Kindergarten

Sunflower Farm’s unique setting is conducive to organically stimulating our Pre-K students, whom we recognize as individuals with a variety of unique learning styles. We know that to meet the needs of each child in a truly developmentally appropriate environment, it is necessary to continually provide a meaningful, stimulating nature-based atmosphere where we mesh the Colorado Preschool Correlation Standards with early childhood Kindergarten Readiness best practices.

School-Age Farm Program

This self-directed learning experience, is for school-age children. At their own pace, children will explore the farm in a way that they personally find meaningful. Rather than adhering to a set curriculum, we allow the farm, nature, and child to intersect at inquiry.

2024 Summer Camps

These Programs are designed to give each child a sense of rural, farm lifestyle. All children will be divided into groups based on age and friend request. Outdoor activities include feeding and care of animals, gardening, art, and just old-fashioned play such as climbing haybales, playing on old tractors, sand, water play and so much more!

Farmfest Public Hours

Farmfest hours are intermittent throughout the year, based on current happenings at the farm as well as weather (Join our email list to stay informed). During your visit, you will be able to have direct contact with your favorite farm animals: goats, sheep, cows, horse, chicken, peacocks and llamas.

Farmfest Summer Music

Our Farmfest Summer Music Evenings, will be held most Wednesday evenings from May - August and a select few Fridays in September & October. All of our farm activities and animals are open to explore on these evenings as well! Food trucks will also be available on all evenings, to grab some easy dinner with your family and support local food vendors and musicians!

We seek to sustainably grow nourishing foods for our community and engage, educate and equip existing and future farmers with the necessary knowledge and skills to be conscientious stewards of the land, regenerate soils and provide food to our community.

“Your heart will stir with the unexpected.”

The Educational Demonstration Farm acknowledgement allowed the Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten Program to continue to blossom into everything it was originally intended since founded in 2005. Additionally, the School-Age Program was relaunched. All three programs integrate farm, nature and animals to foster deep curiosity, exploration and play, allowing endless opportunity for education, profound growth and self awareness. In 2019, our Camps have been reintroduced as well.

With every kind of farm animal you can imagine, this working farm is also open to the public to visit or hear some local music (please see Farmfest Public Hours or Summer Music 2022/23 dates). We invite you to come laugh, explore, dream, listen to some amazing musicians and play as you and your family enjoy the serene combination of nature, animals and farm life.

During your visit, you can pet the goats, sheep and horses, jump from hay bale to hay bale, swing under the cottonwoods, experience the playhouses and sandboxes, explore the tree forts, brush the lama, soar down the slides, climb on the spider web and old tractors and peruse the airplane. If you feel like working, get involved in any of the Farm chores or a work project that may be going on. Water play is available on hot days and go sled-riding on sled hill and toast marshmallows over the bonfire on cooler days.

“This visit is unlike any other.”
