DAY ONE:

Start your epicurean exploration of Longmont with a bit of Southern hospitality and a hearty, stick-to-your-ribs, authentic Cajun meal at Lucile’s Creole Café. Begin your meal with the New Orleans-style beignets and a signature bloody Mary. For a non-alcoholic start to your day, indulge in the café au lait or a fresh-squeezed orange juice. Make sure to save room for a traditional Creole breakfast or lunch.

Stick around the Downtown Longmont Creative District for a morning of exploring. With eclectic shops, art galleries, public art and historic buildings, downtown Longmont is easy to navigate and walkable. While you’re wandering make sure to grab a hot beverage at Ziggi’s or La Vita Bella, and stop at The Kitchen Co., a locally-owned, specialty kitchen supply store. They carry all the tools you need to cook, bake, create and entertain, and they host cooking classes, demonstrations and other special events throughout the year.

For lunch, try The Post Brewing Co., a Big Red F Restaurant. The chef serves up delicious comfort food that is meant to be shared like a family meal. You’ll enjoy beers from The Post Brewing Company in Lafayette (just south of Longmont), that have been purposefully designed to pair perfectly with your meal. The Post was recently featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives.

Continue your tour of Longmont by stopping at two of Colorado’s largest craft brewers: Left Hand Brewing Company and Oskar Blues' Tasty Weasel Tap Room to see what’s on tap. Enjoy fresh brews in comfortable tasting rooms, or learn more about how beer is made by taking a tour (check out their schedules here.)

Round out your afternoon of tasting at Robin Chocolates, Longmont’s most acclaimed chocolate shop, bringing art and chocolate together. Their creations are almost too lovely to eat. Proprietor Robin Autorino was named one of the Top Ten Chocolatiers of North America by Dessert Professional magazine in 2014. And it’s no wonder, with flavors like Rosemary Caramel, Port Wine Reduction and Coconut Rum.

Pro Tip: Robin Chocolates makes a great gift, and they ship anywhere in the continental United States.

For dinner, refuel at Sugarbeet for a memorable dining experience. This modern American restaurant serves upscale, seasonal cuisine and fine wines. Their cozy dining room, attentive staff and fabulous food makes this one of Boulder County’s best restaurants.

DAY TWO:

We can’t talk about Longmont’s food scene without mentioning the Longmont Farmers Market. With Longmont’s strong history of agriculture, this is a fantastic way to enjoy locally and sustainably grown fruits, vegetables, meats and more, as well as get a chance to chat with our local farmers. Start your day at the award-winning Market where you can enjoy breakfast from one of the many prepared food vendors and do some shopping. Held every Saturday from April through November, this grower’s-only market boasts the longest farmer’s market season in the state. Enjoy local food trucks, farmstands and artisan booths for goodies to eat and to take home.

Pro Tip: One of our favorite souvenirs is Colorado Aromatics skin care. Locally grown herbs are formulated to create these wonderful farm-to-skin products including: soaps, lotions, lip balm, skin care, hair care, men’s items and more.

After your morning at the market, visit the Boulder County Agricultural Heritage Center (open Friday-Sunday April 1 through October 31 and the first Saturday of the month November 1 through March 31). Admission is free and daily tours are offered at 11 a.m. Learn about the agricultural history of Boulder County by exploring the historic barns and farmhouse and enjoy seeing farm animals (onsite April through October).

Next, head to local favorite, Cheese Importers, for lunch. This marketplace and bistro is a must-visit for anyone who comes to town! Enjoy a French-inspired meal of soups, salads, quiches, sandwiches and pastries then wander around the quaint European market and famous cheese cooler for souvenirs to take home.

After lunch, take a class at The Art of Cheese, The Art of Cheese offers cheesemaking classes from beginners to advanced cheese connoisseurs, and all of their classes offer tastings. Classes must be reserved in advance – take a look at the upcoming class schedule here.

After making cheese, head over to Longmont’s Haystack Mountain Goat Dairy and take a tour produces their cheese with a tour of their facility. Learn how their cheeses are cultured, aged and packaged, and learn more about this sustainable, local company. For tour availability, click here.

Drive downtown for dinner at The Roost, a craft-casual restaurant, bar and event venue that was recently featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. Executive Chef and Owner Sean Gafner has nearly 20 years of experience in cooking, catering and teaching, and he presents a no-holds-barred menu every night of the week. Enjoy locally sourced menu items, including their signature cocktails. Eat on the scenic rooftop patio (open seasonally) and make sure to stick around for the live entertainment. If you have room for dessert, walk around the corner to Scrumptious, an ice cream shop and candy store. The ice cream is handmade with all-natural ingredients (seriously, the best in town!) and the candy ranges from nostalgic to specialty. Scrumptious will truly make you feel like a kid in a candy store.

DAY THREE:

Grab a latte, Sherpa chai or House Special at OZO Coffee Company, where the coffee is sustainably harvested and locally roasted. Enjoy your drinks outside along the Village Green at Village at the Peaks. Relax in one of the Adirondack chairs, sit close to the fire pit on a cool morning and enjoy the scenic view of the majestic Rocky Mountains.

Head to the West Side Tavern for Sunday Brunch. With its unique ambiance, exciting, seasonal menus and an impressive array of crafted cocktails, uncommon beers, whiskeys and fine wines, the West Side Tavern serves up world-class culinary delights in a quaint, neighborhood setting.

Next, wander the 50-acre Sunflower Farm in southeast Longmont and explore the farm’s animals, huge shade trees with tire swings, hammocks, treehouses and a zipline. In the winter, toast marshmallows over the bonfire or grab a sled for the farm’s sledding hill. The farm is open throughout the year (hours vary), and tickets must be purchased in advance.

End your day with a visit to Next Door American Eatery. Kimbal Musk, the equally ambitious brother to Tesla and SpaceX’s Elon Musk, is the proprietor of this new-to-Longmont eatery (and 5th Colorado location). The Next Door restaurants spotlight real food ingredients sourced from local and domestic farmers, with an eye towards sustainability. Dine on the outdoor patio that offers breathtaking mountain views.

In addition to the itinerary listed above, Visit Longmont highly recommends a farm-to table dinner experience. Local farms host visitors throughout the summer and early fall serving up farm-fresh food, prepared by locally renowned chefs. Farm-to-table dinners are a unique, unforgettable experience that allow visitors onto working farms to learn more about the food on our tables. Dinners are multi-course and dress is casual.

Lyons Farmette
The Lyons Farmette in Lyons, Colorado (15 minutes west of Longmont) offers weekly farm dinners July through September. At the dinner, enjoy their beautiful grounds and a guided tour of the farm which includes their flower garden, greenhouse and farm animals.
