The Wild Animal Sanctuary

overview

View Map

Longmont is a great place to stay and adventure out on day trips across the Front Range of Colorado. About an hour or 35 miles east of Longmont is Keenesburg, CO and home to The Wild Animal Sanctuary. The Sanctuary is not a zoo and offers a completely different visitor experience. Their rescued animals live in large open habitats that encompass 789 acres. They have an elevated walkway that is more than 1.5 miles long and spans across numerous natural habitats, with plenty of opportunities for guests to get a closer view of the animals. The Sanctuary's two primary missions involve rescuing and caring for animals - and educating people about the captive wildlife crisis.  To that end, they allow people who want to learn more about the work they do to visit the unique facility. The vast majority of visitors to the Wild Animal Sanctuary come to experience an incredibly serene setting where prides of African Lions roam freely and tigers, wolves, bears and other large carnivores also live and coexist peacefully. Recommended time spent at the sanctuary is 3-5 hours.
