The Russell Coburn Gallery in Downtown Prospect, South Longmont, CO features the studio potter of Russell Coburn, along with photographs from Elliott McDowell. Occasional visiting artists will also be presented. Russ Coburn is a gifted potter who began making his first high-fired pots during his Junior year at Boulder High School in 1968. He then went on to study pottery at Lewis & Clark College in Oregon and UNC in Colorado before opening a studio in New Mexico and being invited to show in some prestigious Santa Fe galleries. Furthering his education with undergraduate and graduate studies in Ceramics and Archaeology at CU, he gained expertise in the early cultures of the Southwest, providing him valuable information about prehistoric ceramics. Of his work, Coburn says, "I hope I’ll never stop being a student. never stop learning, never stop getting deeper and better expressing through the clay, the glazes, the Self." Elliott McDowell has been linked to a camera since his first Brownie as a kid. He honed his profession in New Mexico for 40 years, only recently moving to Colorado. From Elliott's Bio: "In the 1970’s McDowell was an expert at traditional photography techniques, acclaimed for his impeccably printed photographs of quirky and playful subjects. Over the years McDowell’s silver prints evolved into a stunning new body of jewel colored digital photographs that resemble miniature stage sets of dreams and fairy tales. McDowell constructs these magical works from his vast collection of color slides and digital imagery." We invite you to view the work of Coburn, McDowell, and other artists who might be showing in the gallery at any time. We are available by appointment if regular hours aren't suited to your schedule. Thank you!
