7th Annual Ann Henson Weed Eradication Event @ Apple Valley Road - North Pond

City of Longmont hosts this annual volunteer event to honor Ann Henson. Ann was an explorer, a giver, a teacher, and an important figure in our Front Range botanical community. She contributed her knowledge and botanical skills to the Colorado Native Plant Society, the Colorado Natural Areas Program, Boulder County, Adopt-A-Rare Plant Program, Rocky Mtn. National Park, and Denver Botanic Gardens. Volunteering to improve the health of native ecosystems on public land is the perfect way to celebrate Ann’s life and legacy. Volunteers will receive education from City of Longmont staff and will work to eradicate noxious weeds in an upland plant community next to the north pond. Refreshments will be provided.

Learn about Pollinators! @ Senior Services Center

June is Colorado Pollinator Month! Gardens can be designed to enhance the aesthetics of a site, but also to provide habitat that supports an array of wildlife including pollinators. Join Deryn Davidson of Boulder County Extension to learn about the various pollinator species you might see in your garden as you are out tending your flowers and veggies. We will also cover some design elements you can incorporate in your yard to attract them.

Volunteer Beaver Tree Painting - Help Protect Establishing Native Trees @ Golden Ponds Nature Area

This will be a fun, family-friendly event! Ages 8+. Beavers provide important ecosystem services in our floodplains. They can be a big help creating and restoring wetlands. Sometimes though, we want to plant native trees to enhance and restore our urban riparian areas but protect them from beavers so they can grow to provide a shaded creek for fish or stabilize a bank with their roots. Come help us apply special beaver protection paint to cottonwood trees in two Nature Areas. Remember to wear old clothes because the paint does not wash out. Space is limited. Please register through City of Longmont’s JoinUs volunteer portal.
