Red, White, and Brew: The Colonial and Early American History of Beer and Brewing
From the continent’s original native brewers and the early colonists first attempts to brew in their new home land, to the technological and scientific advancements of the 19th century and the debate over Prohibition in the early 20th century, early American history can be told through the stories of the country’s brewers. As the young country grows and develops, so does it’s brewing industry, moving West with the settlers and making more and more beer for the growing American population. This lecture will cover America’s brewing beginnings, it’s post Civil War boom, and the onset of Prohibition. The history of America through the eyes of brewers and beer drinkers.

Carl Rose is a Colorado native who took his passion for his home state, brewing and history and rolled it into one. His graduate research covered the pre-Prohibiton history of America’s Brewing Industry with particular focus on Colorado. He has also been a professional brewer in the Colorado craft beer scene for almost a decade.
