Arts Longmont continues its 28th season of Friday Afternoon Concerts and Art Shows on Friday, November 16, 2018 with Irena Sendler: Angel of the Warsaw Ghetto. The series is co-presented with the Longmont Museum. This one-act theater piece by actor/scholar Judy Winnick brings to life the amazing work of Irena Sendler, a Polish Catholic social worker during WWII, who risked her life to save others. She was the leader of the children’s section of Zegota, Council for Aid to Jews, and part of the Polish underground. With ingenuity, calmness and courage, Sendler was responsible for rescuing 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto. Q&A period follows the performance.
The accompanying art demonstration is work by multi-media artist Fran Gordon. Recycled, repurposed, and repositioned pieces, mostly metals, are the source materials used to create her iconic art works.
Concerts begin at 2:30pm. The artist demonstration starts at 1:30 in the Museum’s Atrium.
