The Longmont Shambhala Meditation Group offers a drop-in class on the Four Immeasurables on Thursday evenings from 7 to 9 PM starting September 12 through October 10, at The Meditation Place, 324 Main St. in Longmont. Entrance to The Meditation Place is from the parking lot in the rear of the building across Kimbark St. from the Civic Center and the Longmont Library. There is no fee for the classes, but donations are gratefully accepted. The talks will be recorded and placed on our web site, http://www.mistnow.org.
The Four Immeasurables present a view that all human beings have an unlimited capacity for compassion, something that is very much needed in these times.
The class will consist of a period of meditation, with instruction available, followed by tea and refreshments, then a talk and discussion with practices for the immeasurables. The class will be taught by senior teachers in the Shambhala Buddhist tradition.
The five classes are as follows: Thursday, Sept. 12 – Bodhicitta (Awakened Heart) – the ground of developing compassion Thursday, Sept. 19 – Loving Kindness Thursday, Sept. 26 - Compassion Thursday, Oct. 3 – Sympathetic Joy – rejoicing at others’ happiness Thursday, Oct. 10 - Equanimity
