ArtWalk Longmont Announces 2019 Dates

ArtWalk Longmont hosts their 2019 events on Saturday, May 11th and Saturday, September 21 from 4-8 p.m. in the Downtown Longmont Creative District.

This free, annual event celebrates art and culture and brings downtown businesses and local artists together to create a fun-filled evening for the entire family. Enjoy live music performances, special art exhibitions, demonstrations, community art projects and much more as Main Street closes for the evening’s festivities.

ArtWalk has seen some changes over the years. The event began as a monthly gallery hop, asking businesses to partner by hosting art and music, and transforming their storefronts into art galleries. This tradition continues, with artists applying for placement within venues each year for special pop-up exhibits. In 2007, ArtWalk began closing Main Street between 3rd and 6th Avenues, presenting even more opportunities for artists and the public to experience the vibrant and growing culture of our city. Today, ArtWalk Longmont is held on two Saturday nights each year – May 11 and September 21 from 4-8 p.m.

Local artists participate in ArtWalk in three ways. Exhibiting Artists are juried and placed within businesses during the event. One of these artists will be chosen as the Featured Artist for the evening, and that artist receives special recognition and a stipend from ArtWalk Longmont. There will also be six to ten Artists-in-Action creating smaller-scale works along Main Street. These artists will share their process with ArtWalk’s patrons and some will have interactive art projects allowing the public to participate. Finally, Artist Vendors will be on hand showing and selling their work at a discounted rate celebrating this arts festival.

This year’s live musical performances will be held at three ArtWalk Stages placed throughout the downtown event space. In addition to the stage performances, student musicians from local school groups will perform and acoustic performers will be busking throughout the Downtown Creative District.

This is a great way to see local art and enjoy the vibrant Downtown Longmont Creative District. In 2014, Longmont received the prestigious designation of Certified Creative District by the State of Colorado. Downtown Longmont features dozens of interactive art venues including community theaters, music shops, many art galleries, interactive public art and retail, as well as artisan restaurants, craft breweries and a cidery.
