
Longmont sits at the
foot of the Rocky Mountains-a picturesque backdrop
with the broad Great Plains spreading before it.
Because of its
location, the City of Longmont has one of the best
views of the mountains of any Front Range
community. Longs Peak. The City's namesake
dominates the western horizon at 14,255 feet with
the 13,911-foot Mount Meeker situated next to it.
Other sunsets won't compare to those created in
conjunction with these grand mountains.
Because of Longmont's
premier proximity to the beautiful outdoors,
residents are able to take advantage of adventurous
activities such as skiing, rafting, fishing, hiking
and simple enjoying nature. At the same time,
Denver is a close drive and offers big-city life
full of culture.
Longmont is now a
part of an important high technology industry. IBM,
located on the Diagonal Highway, moved to Longmont
in 1965. This company started the high-tech trend
that now defines the area. More recently, the City
has become home to other high-tech companies such as
Storage Tek, Amgen and Seagate, as well as other
major industry leaders.
Despite industry
growth and booming real estate, Longmont retains its
home-town feel, and its strong agricultural roots
are still reflected throught the city. |
